Could some one please explain whether its ok to discuss only 4 issues in the report under the new syllabus T4 paper because of the additional section the examiner has introduced which is worth 10 marks.

the old syllabus the report was marked out of 100. But in the new syllabus there is only 90 marks available for the report. is it possible to pass topcima with a report that discusses only 4 issues?

4 is fine

4 issues should be fine. All the way through my (BPP) training course we were being advised to aim to do 4, with perhaps a brief mention of "other issues" if you get chance. If you look at some of the posts in the T4 forums (in particular one which asks what prioritisation people who passed the last sitting had) you will see most people went for 4.

I did 5 and got 35 credits, frankly if I had missed out one of the less important ones then I would probably only have been down 3-4 credits at most, which would still have been a comfortable pass. One or two people said they passed with only 3 issues.

4 or 5

Hi,

Had the same discussion with a student yesterday! 4 issues is perfectly fine, and yes, if you look at it purely based on issues, then you will be looking at around 90 marks - however, please don't forget you have the new part b which takes up the remainder 10 marks. Part b is a purely a communications exercise, therefore would cover an issue that you have already covered in your report, CIMA want to see that you can communicate it well in a designated format that you are given on the day. CIMA also released a document showing the layout for these different formats. Please do not get hung up on number of issues, focus on 4, and also, please note that the marking across those issues is also not done on an equal basis. The examiner wants to see you place more emphasis on the top two issues, than on 3 & 4, therefore if you find yourself writing more for issue 4 than for 2, question yourself why that is!
