Question:

I bought study material via IBTC for C01 and C02 subjects in July and have been studying and plan on sitting my exams in November. How are the changes in the syllabus going to affect me?

Answer:

Assessments for the current 2006 Certificate syllabus subjects will continue to run in our accredited computer based assessment centres until 30 June 2012.
Assessments for the new 2011 Certificate syllabus subjects will start to run from 3 October 2011.

Therefore assessments for the two syllabi will be available concurrently between the 3 October 2011 and 30 June 2012.

If you pass any assessments under the 2006 Certificate syllabus  before 1 July 2012 you will be awarded credits for subjects under the new 2011 Certificate syllabus on a paper for paper basis.

The transition arrangements between the two syllabi are available from this link:

Question:

I still have the Business Mathematics and the Management Accounting papers to sit to obtain the Certificate in Business Accounting. How will the changes affect me sitting these remaining two exams? Will I have to buy new text books or learn modules completely different altogether?

Answer:

Assessments for the current 2006 Certificate syllabus subjects will continue to run in our accredited computer based assessment centres until 30 June 2012. Therefore you still have sufficient time to complete the Certificate in Business Accounting under the 2006 syllabus if you wish to do so.

Assessments for the new 2011 Certificate syllabus subjects will start to run from 3 October 2011. Therefore assessments for the two syllabi will be available concurrently between the 3 October 2011 and 30 June 2012.

If you do not pass all subjects under the 2006 syllabus by 1 July 2012 we will transfer any credits that you do have over to the new 2011 Certificate syllabus on a paper for paper basis.

The transition arrangements between the two syllabi are available from this link:

Question:

What will the changes be in the new CBA syllabus? Are they going to be major or minor, and will the study text also be changing? And if so when will the new study text be published?

Answer:

The updated content of the new syllabus reflects significant emerging issues facing the business and financial communities like the 2008 banking crisis and credit crunch. The updated syllabus also uses a new format which links the lead aims, learning outcomes and syllabus content more explicitly.
The new 2011 syllabus is available here:
http://www.cimaglobal.com/Students/Entry-level-certificate-in-business-accounting/Certificate-in-business-accounting-from-2011/

The new study texts are available now from http://www.cimapublishing.com/
If you prefer, you may still sit exams under the 2006 syllabus until 30 June 2012. Whichever option you choose, please ensure you are using the correct study text.

You can also study for the certificate subjects with CIMAstudy.com - the CIMA endorsed online study system.
