We live in interesting times. Social media heralds the start of a truly fundamental change. The worlds of business and society entwine to offer immense opportunities. Add to this scenario the sharing of knowledge as well as experiences with people – known or unknown across any part of the earth. And what’s more it is done without any substantial carbon footprint!

It is unlikely that most people today would not have heard of the many social media platforms through which they reach out into the world at large. I am quite sure that most of you reading this blog will surely have a presence on Facebook, Linkedin, Myspace, Flickr or Youtube. I certainly do. This is the world we live in.

It’s in this context that I’m commencing this blog as my way to reach out to CIMA members across the world, sharing my CIMA knowledge and experiences with you. It will also be the medium through which you can reach me.

An organization like CIMA has always been a unique community. For 90 years its members have been a group of like-minded people scattered across various demographics and environments. Today the CIMA community spans 160+ countries encircling the globe. So why keep your experience of business challenges and opportunities to yourself?  Imagine the wealth of knowledge and opinions that are out there. Social media offers this opportunity.

In the year ahead my CIMA roles as well as my personal pursuits will take me across a number of countries. I’ll be meeting members and students from China to Africa and from Canada to New Zealand, addressing many forums and absorbing many opinions on the way. Connecting with business leaders and politicians, it’ll be as much a learning experience for me as a chance to increase the understanding of management accounting. I’ll keep you up to date on these exchanges.

In turn, your questions, experiences and opinions are a welcome part of the mix, both here on my blog and across CIMAsphere. Yes, we live in exciting times! I look forward to sharing the CIMA journey…

Active Particiaption

In my association w/ CIMA in the last 30 years, CIMAsphere is the first of its kind where global communication between members is facilitated. As Deputy President Aubrey says,'the CIMA community spans 160+ countries encircling the globe', it is this core strength ( the breath and depth of the CIMA netwprk) of CIMA which makes this platform so valuable.

Nevertheless, no matter how good the cause could be, any successful e-platform should provide the convenience and benefits its target group needs, and at the same time, be supported by active users.

Traditionally, accountants are reserved, shy away from expressing themselves openly. And yet, time's changed. I have high hopes that our 70000 members would make our best efforts to turn CIMAsphere into a successful business platform for the benefits of members and public.

Active Participation

Ellena, you are absolutely right. We have a vast CIMA network that can be a very powerful and effective group to serve various purposes. My intent as incoming President is to foster and develop a 'CIMA alumni' spanning the globe, much like the ivy league business school alumnis. Such a network can provide support, mentoring, knowledge sharing, business connections etc. I would like to invite you to become the first active player in my vision. Can you get a few of your CIMA friends to develop an interest and in turn have them invite their friends. The pyramid effect will grow the network.

Active Participation

Mr. President, it is my honour and duty to do that. Your vision would certainly be shared by a lot of members.

I am coming la~~.

Role Model

I do not expect to get reconnected w/ my dear friend, Hon Wan, 29 years after our graduation. What an excellent illustration of how effective CIMAsphere could be in our social and business networking.

Hon Wan, be the role model of our class of 80 and try to pull in as many of our Poly friends as possible.

Let's have a big party!
