Facetwit - The new world order

Despite most of the press coverage at Copenhagen going to the Olympic cities the actual Congress only began after Rio was selected. The Congress was a 3 day event at the Bella Center 5 minutes from downtown Copenhagen.

Coming from South Africa I’ve never seen alternate energy sources at work so it was great to see that the convention centre had a lone wind turbine stationed just outside the perimeter, not to mention the dozen or so turbines that salute you from the Baltic as you touchdown on Danish soil.

The last Olympic Congress was held in Paris in 1995 so as could be imagined there was lots to talk about for my theme the digital revolution. The spotlight went as could be expected to the Facetwit alliance and there was much emphasis on targeting youth through their emerging interactive communication methods or as Sir Martin Sorrell of WPP put it "let the children play".

One of the major outcomes from the Congress was the establishment of a digital task force to implement the IOC strategy. I considered this a home run since the resolution fully embraced my proposal by establishing their intentions of communicating with audiences all over the world via whatever technology was appropriate. For me this was using mobile technology to provide free sponsored information to the population at the base of the pyramid via my Copenhagen Mobile Media Method (C3m)

It was truly a wonderful experience to be a part of and I am grateful to the IOC for the opportunity, I came to several realizations regarding networking that are worth penning down, most importantly I noticed that no matter how wealthy or prominent an individual is, there is no better way to communicate than a frank, eye-level discussion with enough respect to show deference but not too much to appear sycophantic. Initially it is daunting chatting with a guy you’ve just Wikipediad on your Blackberry, but I quickly realized that people are people and if you have something worthwhile to discuss most executives are approachable; just don’t let the stardust blind you.

As with any high profile event there are many resolutions reached but the difficulty comes with execution and project roll-out. Bureaucrats are great hosts of events but the down side is the red tape involved in actioning their resolutions; I’m spearheading a proposal to the IOC digital task force to incorporate C3m in an attempt to be the voice for my self-proclaimed constituents all over the developing world.

Wish me luck and stay tuned

Good luck

What a cool opportunity, Jarred. Hopefully we'll hear more about your proposal in coming posts?

cool indeed

I hope to blog a few more posts and then move onto a new theme, hopefully the CIMAsphere will attract some of that viral magnetism out in the social networking world
