Off to the Olympics…in 2009?

Most of you have never heard of the Olympic Congress which isn’t surprising since it’s a rather niche get together of international Olympic committees, sports personalities and media, however this year when you witness the announcement broadcast globally about the next Olympic city in 2016, take note of the venue (it’s the 13th Olympic Congress in Copenhagen)

Fortunately your correspondent has the privilege of attending this once in a decade event by a mixture of serendipity, pure luck and a DNA of innovation.

For the past 2 years the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has been calling for submissions via their website, Facebook and other mediums for the public to submit essays on various themes to be discussed at the congress.

The top 99 entrants have been published alongside the Olympic movers and thinkers in the official 800 page door-stop compilation in honour of the Congress, and a lucky few of us were invited to attend in person with flight and accommodation on the IOC’s tab.

Before the Congress I’d like to open up the floor to my peers at CIMA in order to obtain feedback on the topic I’ll be discussing. Over the next few posts I will highlight various topics in my submission and I would appreciate your feedback.

Once at the congress I will give a report back from Copenhagen, or as the locals call it København.

My theme is The Digital Revolution - How to increase the size of the sports audience?

Some of the topics that I would like to discuss include:

o   Mobile telecoms in developing countries

o   Mobile marketing communications

o   Marketing to the billions of people at the base of the economic pyramid

o   Growing sporting audience’s worldwide

o   Developing brand loyalty amongst virgin audiences

o   Constructing revenue models for mobile media

o   Incentive schemes for mobile phone subscriptions
