With all the negative press in general about the state of financial world now and especially when the name referred is Osborne, it can sometimes feel there isn't really anything positive about it...
Not really. The Osborne that I mentioned in the title, is from Scotland and as you read this blog, his invention, is creating waves across third world countries..
David Osborne, a plumber from Troon, Scotland has invented (and patented) his Jompy boiler, which in a nutshell, is a tightly coiled copper tube, that sits above an open fire or gas flame; cold water goes in at one end and heats to near boiling point in seconds.
Boiling point, in real life, means the water is 99% free of harmful bacteria, the source for all major life threatening diseases through consumption of dirty water, prevalent in Third world.
So impressive is the Jompy that it is now a finalist in World Challenge 2010, a global competition aimed at projects showing enterprise and innovation at the grassroots level (nominations closed).
But the name 'Jompy' is a mystery, according to the man himself, in The Daily Record: "A lot of people have suggested it means something in Swahili or Ugandan. But If anyone can tell me the answer, I'll give them a free one."
