Having been with my current employer for more than five years I've been out of the job search loop for quite a while. Now I'm looking for a change and the opportunity to progress within a new company I'm finding the whole process a bit daunting...
It would be really useful to get any info on how best to navigate the job market in the 'current climate'. As most roles are through agencies I'm particularly interested in any info people have on how to deal with the agencies once applications have been submitted.
I've registered my details with a few known financial recruitment agencies in London, met with a few consultants, been promised the earth and... nothing.
I haven't sent many applications as I'd rather target roles to which my (perhaps limited) experience is relevant, rather than a blanket attack on every position in the area. I've had literally zero feedback on any of applications I've made, with any requests for feedback receiving the standard 'due to high volumes I should assume I'm unsuccessful if I haven't been contacted' message.
I'm now wondering if perhaps in the agencies' eyes I'm not a 'serious' jobhunter if I'm not applying for everything I'm even vaguely qualified for, however I don't want to run the risk of diluting my CV details and having them think that I'm desparate for a job and will take anything, or that I'm a pain and won't leave them alone.
I imagine many people are in the same situation so I'd welcome comments/info. Especially if anyone happens to be working for an agency...
Many thanks, Kirsty
