CIMA - CPA Australia MRA Eligibilty

Replies : 6

Dear All;

I am a strategic level student of CIMA through CPGA Route.

I am an Australian Permanent Resident and wanted to avail CIMA- CPA Aus MRA arrangement.But those members who have got membership on the basis of any previous MRA,are not eligible to avail this arrangement.As I am going to be CIMA Member through CPGA route,will I be able to avail this MRA?Furthermore can CPGA be construed as an MRA by CPA?

Thanks.

CIMA - CPA Australia MRA Eligibilty

Good question. Typically MRAs apply to individuals who have gone through the normal route for qualification.

It is best to contact CPA Australia and CIMA. The accelerated route is not a full MRA, but special examination arrangements between CIMA and other bodies.

Still, I would think that CIMA-CPA Aust MRA would view such fast track programs as not falling under the normal route for qualification given the generous exemptions.

I could be and hope I am wrong. All the best. The answer to your question would be of interest to many, I presume.

Re:CIMA - CPA Australia MRA Eligibilty

Dear Chee Kin Tang;

Thanks for your reply!

Actually I have contacted CIMA at the outset for clarification of the same.CIMA advised me to contact CPA Australia for confirmation of the same.CPA Australia responded that all depends on Letter of Good Standing to be issued by CIMA.If the Letter of Good Standing were to mention that I have obtained CIMA Membership through another MRA,then I would not be eligible for this very MRA b/w CIMA and CPA.

Now I have again referred to CIMA,to let me know that what it will going to mention on my letter of good standing.

As I have already mentioned,that being permanent resident of Australia,I have to live and work overthere.I am going to Australia in six months or so.So Australian Qualification is my ultimate objective.I am confused as to whether pursuing CIMA would be beneficial for me or I should start CPA altoghter.I am going to CIMA Strategic Level for the first time in November 2011.

Kindly advise.

Thanks.

Re:CIMA - CPA Australia MRA Eligibilty

Hi Hassan

You need to discuss directly with CIMA the responses you received from CPA Aust. My gut feel is that CPGA does not fall under the normal qualifying route.

You will need to check what you need to do in terms of the CPA program if you believe that it is crucial to your employment prospects in Aust. The CIMA you can always return to later.

However it may take a longer time to complete the CPA program than the 4 papers you have left in CIMA.

I would do the following:

1. If the CPA program is faster to complete, I will go for it. You might then want to find out if you can get CIMA through the MRA. Assuming you can, this would be the preferred option.

2. Even if the CPA prgram is longer, I will still go for it assuming there is little chance that CIMA treats the CPGA as the normal qualification route. On the balance of it, the CPA Aust would probably be more helpful. You can alwaysturn back to your CIMA studies while in Aust.

3. If however, CPGA does not fall under an MRA with another body, I will complete CIMA and get the CPA Aust (assuming Option 1 does not work). It may mean a delay of a few months more, but you will end with two qualifications.

Obviously there are many "if-then" considerations for you. However, if in the short term, there is little you can do and you ahve already began preparing for the strategic level papers, you might as well go for them in Nov 2011.

Re:CIMA - CPA Australia MRA Eligibilty

Dear Chee Kin Tang;

So nice of you for being considerate and utmost supportive!

You are right in saying that in the short term my only real option is to go for Strategic Level as I have started preparing and above all exam payment has also made to CIMA.

In the meantime I will get it clear from CIMA for my eligibilty for CPA MRA eligibility on the basis of CPGA.

Right after taking exams, I will start the admission process in CPA.Obviously CPA is my top priority,as of now.

I have dropped an email at  cima.contact,and will share their response with you.

In the end,I am grateful to you for all this expertise and knowledge sharing!

Take care!

Hi Hassan,

Just out of curiosity, what respnse did you get from CIMA regarding content of letter of good standing they would be issuing to the members qulaified throught the CPGA route.
