Was wondering how others were finding the job market right now (in particular London & the South East)?

I’m finding it pretty heavy going because it feels like roles are unattainable at the moment so I am interested to know how others are doing.

    Hello,

I'm 21, currently living in N.E England studying CIMA. I'm AAT qualified, and have completed the Operational level of CIMA, now studying Management level.

Once qualified, I'm interested in moving to an International company, hopefully with the prospect of being able to work abroad for a few years (or maybe longer) and gain further experience as well as travel a bit.

I was wondering if there were any companies in particular that would be good to look at for opportunities like this?

I am currently working for a charity which is part way through a very large £6.5 million capital project. I have been there for 3 1/2 years and finished my managerial, strategic and T4 exams with their financial help. A few months ago I had a quick look around to see what available job wise, there was talk or a merger with a similar organisation and my post was threatened.

    Hi,

I have a 7-year experience in mobile application development.  I recently decided to do a career shift from the technical side to the business side.  Jobs that I am targetting are product management, project management, business analyst, or UX/UI designer.

The problem is that I am not getting any of the jobs because I don't have the experience, and I thought getting the CIMA might help me in this change.  What do you think?

     Thanks!

I have just been qualified after passing T4 (B) in March.  I have been Finance Analyst over 9 years in the same company.  I went for Finance Manager job of another product line within the same company, but was unsuccessful.  The feedback from FC was that he saw me doing analysis work with my laptop all the times, and did not have enough exposure with commercial and operations people.  I was second best, but was beaten by the winner (also CIMA) with more people relationship experience.

    Hello everyone,

I achieved my CMA Canada designation in October 2002 and my CIMA UK membership in Dec 2010. (via reciprocal agreement).

My roles have been as a Senior Accounting Associate for 7 years at a Public Relations Agency and as a Senior Corporate Accountant- budgeting for 2 years at an asset manager. I would describe myself as mid-level senior (non-manager).

I then went on a sabbatical for 16 months and have been looking for work for the past year in London.

I have now  been out of work for 3 years.

I am currently in 12th Grade (Equivalent to ALevel/American High School), now there are three possible routes I can take to get a Cima Qualification

    1. Immediately after 12th Grade

    2. After BBA Finance Degree

    3. After BBA+MBA Finance Degree

Which Ruote should I take? And, I also would like to know whether Cima would add significant weightage to my CV, or is MBA enough?

    Hello,

I am contemplating an offer from a bulge bracket for an analyst role in an operations centre.

The role relates to project work and working on strategic projects. I am very pleased at the offer, however the salary is lower than i expected..

BUT, I truly am unsure whether this role will make or break my career. The role is very far removed from my previous bog standard accounting roles.

Does anyone here have any advice for working in an IB ops environment?

    Hi,

I would be interested to hear some opinions on this.

I have a 2:1 in Management Accounting, I've passed all the Certificate exams and am taking the Operational papers in May. Unfortunately, I'm doing this all by myself without any study support other than the second hand books I can find out there as paying for the tuition is beyond my means.

    Hi,

I am a memebr of both ICAI (India) & ICWAI, I want to know what's the best route I should take if I choose to pursue the CIMA designation, i.e, whether I should go for exemptions meant for ICWAI members or ICAI members.

Further what is the shortest posible duration for getting the CIMA qualifcation for me. A timeline would be highly helpful.

I have a work experience of more than 2 years.

    Regards

    Anurag

Hello, Today I have been offered a role for a well known brand paying over £10k from my base salary. The role is an FP&A analyst. While this does sound very good, in my mind it's not all about the cash.  Where I am currently is very relaxed,  no issues and the company is performing well and I have been here a number of years.  There is no chance the pay will match what I am being offered and progression is non existent.  Still, I am busy and always keen to contribute new ideas  to the various departments. I am also ACMA. My question is should I jump ship?

Recently retired or made redundant?  Looking to make a transition into consultancy?  Here at CIMA, we're looking for a management accounting specialist to work on a major project with an external partner for a one-year contract.  Could make a great stepping stone into consultancy-type work.  Check out the details here.  If that doesn't grab you, there are two other roles on offer.

It seems i have been misguided in obtaining my CIMA qualification. I spent three years obtaining the qualification, and i'm finding it harder to move up the food chain now that i am qualified.

It seems the brand has a taken a knock from the CGMA situation and other legal matters.

Speaking to a recruitment agent yesterday, I was told there is an increasing demand for ACA/ACCA people over CIMA people. Unsure why, but seems thats the way it is..

    Hi,

I am currently studying the Strategic level but wish to start offering a Bookkeeping service.  I know that I need to register with HMRC for Anti Money Laundering.  I remember seeing on this discussion area once that even if you are not yet a member in practice, CIMA can offer to supervise you if you send a request to them.

Could someone please tell me if this is the case and if so where I can send the request to?

    Many Thanks

Hi, I'm going to be applying for new soon (30 March) and I was wondering if anyone had useful tips on how to "big-up" my skills and abilities in my CV and cover letter. I'm considering moving from a clerk to a senior clerk as well as a team leader role...I know it sounds like a big jump however i've been working at the same company for 4 years and I feel I have all the right attributes to fulfil either role.

Any ideas/tips would be very helpful and greatly appreciated!!
