Forensic Accounting

I am really interested in getting into a career in Forensic Accounting.  A lot of the job specs I've found ask for ACCA or ACA.  Does anyone know whether a CIMA qualification is acceptable please?

Forensic Accounting

This is an area that I have always been interested as well - any info would be great!

Forensic Accounting

Susan, the CIMA qualification is acceptable. Take a look at this: http://www2.cimaglobal.com/cps/rde/xchg/SID-0A82C289-3F49D774/live/root.... Dave started his forensic accounting career too many years ago when he worked in the public sector and was (if I recall correctly) not long qualified..

Forensic Accounting

I'm also interested in Forensic Accounting - I like the idea of being a crime fighting accountant! Does anyone out there work for the Police? If they do I'd be interested to hear how they got the job, what it's like etc

Forensic accounting

I am working in forensic accounting since the last few years. Am a chartered accountant and pursuing TOPCIMA. CIMA is well accebtable for forensic accounting since the profession requires analytical skills and management accounting and financial accounting knowledge to solve financial corporate scandals. There is this this CFE exam - certified fraud examiner that you can sit if you are hardcode interested in forensic accounting. It will be an added value.

Forensic Accounting

Hi Mitsu, what type of business do you work for? An accountancy firm? Are you enjoying the job and has it lived up to your expectations? Thanks for the info on the CFE exam. I've been on the ACFE website and I qualify for the exam so its definately something I'll think about.

Forensic Accounting

Hi Dave, its been days since i logged in here. Are you still seeking a reply? if yes, it would be my pleasure to provide more insight.

Forensic accountancy

I was an assistant forensic accountant for 5 years previously.

I did not have any accounting qualifications when I got the job, but I got the job because I already worked for the firm and the boss liked me and asked which dpt I wanted to work for and I chose that one.

The majority of the people working there in the senior positions were ACA and a couple ACCA. There were no CIMA people working directly for the dept, although as there was cross-departmental co-operation and functionality, some CIMA people were involved in the data analysis side if need be.

It has a high focus on Auditing and reporting skills, so CIMA is not the best qualification to have if you want to work in forensic accounting and I would have thought most of the big firms would want ACA or ACCA. I think it would also depend on what practical experience you have also.

Mitsu, I think you win the award for the longest time taken to reply on Cimasphere! ;-)

But yes I am still interested in Forensic Accounting. I have just passed all my exams and am looking for a new job so now is the time to decide if a move into Forensic Accounting would be a good one for me.

I have seen some jobs and it looks like they do prefer ACA/ACCA but as Nicholas says, it's also about your experience. What type of company are you working for (Lawyers/Accountancy Practice/Other) and what sort of things are you involved in?
