Becoming a Director

I am Head Of Finance in a family run company.  The MD has changed the job titles of myself, Head of Sales and Head of Operations to Finance Director, Sales Director and Operations Director.  We have monthly meetings which are called Senior Staff Meetings.

I have been told that because I have Director in my job title I would be deemed to be a Director of the company with the responsibilities and liabilities of a Director.  However we have not notified Companies House that we are Directors so I believe it is just a job title and I am not officially a Company Director.

Does anyone know what the legal position is?

Probably Not

Susan,

As you are not registered with Companies House then all you have is a title.  I know that sounds demeaning, but that is currently the position you are in.

What you need to do is look at the duties of directors and see if your job lines up with them.  If it does, then you probably should be added as a director at Companies House.

A bit of a vague answer, but hopefully it helps.

Al.
