Clothing as an allowable expense

I have a potential client who is a security consultant (ltd company) and as such is required to wear a prescribed set of clothing, which he must provide himself. The items he must wear are listed within his contract with his client. Strictly speaking this is not PPE but it's not clothing that he would wear when he is not at work. Claiming clothing as an allowable business expense seems to be such a grey area and I was wondering if anyone has come across a similar issue and how they have treated it?

it is allowable

Yes, it is. Work related clothing of protective nature is allowable an expense.
