tax returns in ireland

Hi I was thinking of doing tax returns for my brother in law who is a pilot for a well know Irish airline.

I assume I need to register as a member in practice here but do I need to register anywhere else in Ireland.

Also if anyone can recommend any refresher books and tax software that could help it would be much appreciated.

Payment?

Are you not just doing this as a favour for your brother in law?  Unless you have bigger plans to work for paying clients you wouldn't have to register as a MIP to my knowledge.  If he is paying you and that's all you're doing then it's not worth the hassle (and cost) - do it for free.  You might get a bigger Christmas present next year ;) If you had to register in these circumstances I'd say there's lots of students and members out there breaking the rules by doing family members' tax returns.

Was going to do it as a favour for my bro in law but with view that if I found it was workable around my current work/social life that would roll it out a bit possibly for a few of his colleague for a bit of extra income so wonderered if I was to go down that route where I would register.

In saying that I still need to do some studying of the Irish Tax laws

registration

Hi Kenneth

You don't need to register to do tax returns, non-accountants can do their own returns if they wish to and they can't register as MIP's.  However, if you do recieve payment then you have to declare the income at the end of the year and pay tax yourself on that.  Only seeing this post now so sorry for the late reply, you've probably figured all this out yourself at this point =D
