Online Study

Afternoon all,

Has anyone had any experience of these new "online study" courses?

I've started distance learning the new 3 strategic papers for May and think i will definitely need abit more help than just reading the books!

The provider i was considering was LSBF - are they any good generally? Good value for money? How many hours tuition do you get? Do you need a good internet connection?

Any insider info would be much appreciated!

 Thanks

Andy

Online Study

Hi Andy,

I've been studying the strategic papers at LSBF this term.

OK, for me this is an absolute no brainer. For £2,300 this term, i got all three strategic papers (10 days of lectures (9.30-16.30) including 2 of revision plus two mocks and plenty more marking when i wanted it), TOPCIMA, a free laptop and a free financial modelling course.

I could have paid £3,900 for less hours and only Strategic at BPP or Kaplan. You've got this far on CIMA, you tell me what the value for money is :-)

Nearly half the price and a lot more for your money.

The lecturers at LSBF are as good as any. I have studied at Kaplan and BPP in the past and LSBF are as good, if not better than those. BPP and Kaplan have the reputation and will tell you pass rates are the best, and all these prize winners, but you have to remember between them the majority of students studying CIMA study there, so of course they'll have all the prize winners because not many people study elsewhere.

Incidently, i spent three days down in Bristol last week doing BPP's Question Based Revision days, it was OK and good feedback, but i figured that they tend to brush over some of the detail, probably because they have less time.

Class sizes at LSBF are around 20 students this term which maybe a touch higher than Kaplan or BPP but it's not a problem, and the lecturers are always happy to assist out of class time.

Oh, i forgot to mention. LSBF used BPP's material this term, i think they may be using CIMA's official next term so the material you receive is not in question. If you've got the time, go to LSBF...........

LSBF

Hi David

I've posted something similar as am looking to do E1 and P1.  Interesting what you say about LSBF and i am definitely going to have a look at this now.  I had heard mixed reviews on pass rates but sounds like you have done well so far.  I was going to have a go at BPP's new class of the future thing as that looks good but from your post, it sounds like i should try LSBF.  Don't LSBF use BPP materials though?

I agree with what you say about Kaplan - have used them in the past and they were terrible.  I didn't pass exams using them so not going back.
