CIMA Online Study Courses - Any Good?

Hi,

I'm considering purchasing the CIMA online distance learning study courses for my Operational-level exams, which I intend to sit in 2011. I taught myself the material for Certificate papers using only the CIMA study books + revision cards & passed all CBAs first-time, averaging 80%. However, I am concerned that books alone will not be sufficient for the Professional stage.

Could anyone who has used CIMA Online as their main study system for Operational, Managerial or Strategic papers please let me know your opinions on this method of distance learning?

I know it is more time consuming than BPP / FTC offerings; however I am not convinced that paying £375 - £700 for just one course with such providers offers any value for money.

Hi Paula,

I used CIMA online courses for Managerial & strategic levels.I found   them convenient compared to reading text books.One drawback is that the audio & video content is less and it's more like reading PDF files.The summary at the end of each chapter is very good for revision & getting an idea of the whole syllabus.For E3 & P3 I went thru the modules once and after that I just revised the synopsis at the end of each chapter.

Thanks for the info Shibu - that's really useful to know. I'll make sure I dedicate enough time to studying the summaries at the end of each chapter.

Did you just use the cima online on its own or did you buy some other study products? I am due to start my strategic papers and I am trying to decide who to go with, because Im paying for it myself I need to find a low cost supplier and cima online seems the cheapest, I have noticed however that it doesnt have very good feedback.

Dear Shibu,

Does CIMAstudy.com provide online tutors to answer queries or make comment, and some disscussion on pre-seen material?

Like Paula, I also find BPP/Kaplan expensive compared to CIMAstudy.com. I have been on self-study all these while but I failed Strategic papers for four sittings now, mostly around 40+. Feeling mad.

Oh God .... I've been getting suggesstions on the right side bar in this forum similar to what I was talking here. I have no more time to comment here now. I recommend Insaf business school which is an excellent live online tuition - by quality as well as price/ value for money. Lots of great features. You may further google. Now it's time to study. Wishe me luck for my Strats .... :-)

After considering few online courses, I'd definietely recommend Insaf business school for online courses. Their tutors are excellent, pricing is so cheap and offer bespoke instructions. Next to Insaff, I'd say, Kaplan's Live online programme, followed by BPP's future class. Other online programmes mostly just 'colorful' in magazines only :-(
