E1, F1 or P1 - Please Read!!

Keywords: E1, F1, P1

I am due to sit E1, F1 and P1 next week but due to a number of personal problems (which i wont bore you with) i have missed all of my recent study lessons and have not been able to study at home.

I am nowhere near confident in any of these exams and am thinking its very highly likely il have to resit them all.

But what im wondering is which 1 of these would be easier to pass?? im just hoping to pass 1 out of the 3 as its 1 less id have to resit.

My current situation on each subject is:

E1 = not looked at in months but have all books and notes.

P1 = can do a few parts such as simple npv questions but cant remember all  ratios/formulas, cant remember much of the wordeddetails of irr, arr, mcdonaldization etc.

F1 = can complete most of the consolidated income statements/balance sheets for subsidiaries and associates, am ok with cashflows and single company accounts but make a few mistakes with the addition information workings. dont really remember much of the worded parts.

my employee is paying for my study and knows my situation but i think if i can pass 1 then is looks abit better than failing all 3.

so what would you all do if you were in my situation?

please people reply asap as im really stuck and on my own, i have a few days to knuckle down to pass 1 so PLEASE HELP!!!

in my opinion

E1 is easiest

F1 is hardest

But everyone is different.

also

E1 is tuesday and F1 is thursday, so you will have an extra two days to study if you do F1 and an extra day to study for P1 compared to if you chose E1. It's tough, I would do E1.

Topics

I would be near enough starting E1 fresh and ive heard its alot of writing so whats the best way to approach this? Im not even sure which parts to concentrate on. I could maybe try E1 and hope to maybe do F1 aswell.

reply

E1 is half the size of P1 and F1 too so it is not as much to learn. Focus on all parts as all knowledge will be tested. Just read it, read it and read it again till everything sinks in. If you want to do two, do E1 and P1 as things like TQM are in both subjects. F1 is a lot of work. But again, this is just my opinion on what I find easiest.

Reply to E1, F1 or P1

I'm writing E1 and F1 next week.

In my opinion, for E1, I would suggest you atleast learn the main points to each topic i.e. for example:
Total Quality Management (TQM) - definition
the TQM tools: Six Sigma, Kaizen, 5 S practice
learn just enough so that you get awarded marks for your knowledge and you can expand on some topics like marketing and HR based on your general knowledge

For F1, you've said that you can complete the 25 marks (Section C) so I would say try to work on that and try focussing on the last few chapters i.e income tax, contracts, leases since most of the 5 marks and 2 mark objective questions come from that section.

I know that's a lot to do in barely a week and since you're also doing P1, a mountain to climb, and it's easier said than done, but see if what I said works out.

All the best!!

E1

E1 is defo the smallest! I say study E1 fri, sat, sun, mon. Study the text book per section (A-E) If you study global env, info systems and quality most, HR and Marketing can be done from general business knowledge.

Even by just copying out the chapter roundups and identifying the parts you need to go back and look at deeper.

Then do F1, as you have tues night and wed to go over it. I would aim at passing one tho with only having 4  days left

Thanks

Thanks for those coments. Ive decided its E1 & F1 that im going to try and do. With F1 which topics should i really look at for the 2 and 5 mark questions? If i can pick up 30-35 points in section c then il only need 15 from the 50 available in section a/b. With E1 which topics should i really look at as ive been told il need to write quite alot? I have all my notes and study books so will just need to read but seems alot of i need to read ever page. Im sure someone on here has looked at past papers (which i havent had the chance to) and could guide me to the main topics. I really appreciate the help from you guys on here as yesterday i was so close to just giving up on it all, im just holding out faith i can pass 1 and maybe get lucky with a 2nd but id be happy with the 1. Any thoughts/tips then please post them.....

E1

Hi, I'm revising E1 now! It's been said that HR and Marketing are quite likely for Section C questions because there's quite a lot you can write about esp in HR, (but a lot of it are things you will be able to relate to in real life so its not completely alien). There's mock exams in the back of the P&R kit and on the CIMA website (with answers) so it would be worth having a look at those and drawing out essay plans on how you'd approach the wordy stuff. I also find if you can imagine and relate the situation to a real life company you're gonna find it easier to write out an answer, as you need to be able to relate the answers to the scenarios given in the text too.. I've got P1 to study too but am making next to no progress on it :s Good Luck with yours.

You may surprise yourself

Hi Matt

Good on you for giving it a shot - you may surprise yourself! I'm sure you know more than you think. Write yourself up some decent revision notes and get some question practice in - who knows, you might get through all three first time!

I have a blog on CIMAsphere which has tips and advice for P1, E1 and F1, if you look through the posts there you'll find them all.

E1 & F1 Main Topics

well as im going to try and concentrate on E1 & F1 what are the main topics for each that i should try to remember?

the E1 book is still quite big so not really enough time to read it all so want to try and read and memorise the main parts as ive been told you need to write pages and pages for this exam.

Look also at the first video link I posted earlier, there are free ebooks covering the main syllabus areas. As you are short on time this may be useful for E1.

Hi,

Yeah I agree with the majority, go for E1.

I was in a similar situation as you a few years ago & I studied E1 the day b4 & that was literally all the revision I did on that one!!

Make sure you learn all the theories so you can stick a few models & names in.

I passed E1 with 52% so only just scraped through. I relied heavily on common sense & waffled quite a bit but it seemed to work.

I think P1 is the hardest. I am takin it for the 4th time on Wednesday.

I say study E1 till tues then concentrate on F1 for thurs, hopefully u will pass bith & can do P1 in Nov.

Good luck

E1

I am going to look through my E1 notes/books at parts today and tomorrow. What parts shall i make sure i know as i see a few of you mention the key elements to base answers on. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

Hi Matt,

U didnt come back to relate ur experience. How did it go? Did u pass E1. I know some people like me would be encouraged by ur success.

E1 - why do people fail?

I am about to start studying for my very first CIMA exam (E1) in November. I have read many comments by students about them failing this exam. I am a little concerned about why so many students fail this exam (I haven't even started looking at any of the others yet). What is it that I can do more to ensure that I pass first time!

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Hi Everyone,

I have just registered with Cima and looking for some assistance.

I had the exemptions from papers C1-C5. I will start with the Operational Level.

I am about to buy some materials for self study. Could you help me and give some advices, please?

1) Is there any particular order I should start the Operational Level, e.g. E1, P1, F1? If yes it is, what is the best order OR I can start with any paper I want to?

2) Which materials are the best for self study? Online course from Cimastudy, BPP, books etc.??? I have heard that there are some differences between BBP and Cimastudy online courses.Do I have to buy new books for 2012 or can use the same for 2011 - do I need new ones or used are fine? Where can I buy them from?

3) I cannot find link for syllabus for 2012. What is the syllabus for 2012, still the same as is for 2010 and 2011? Any link, please! Thank you.

4) If I fail in May, are the questions the same in November?

Thank you very much in advance.
