Passed F1. Advice please!!

Hello all.

I passed P1 a while back and then decided to do P2 which I found to be a nightmare. Anyway after 4 failed attempts I decided to scrap it and do F1 to try boost my confidence.

I got 72 today which I am very pleased with.

So now I am thinking, shall I do E1 to complete the operational level, or do F2 as the financial side is still fresh??

Any comments on F2? How difficult etc? What do people think?

Thanks

F2

I've just passed F2 after sitting F1 in May and found a lot of the knowledge from the May sitting was built upon in F2.

Personally I'd recommend sitting F2 now as consolidated groups are such a predominant part of the syllabus, but it's a personal thing.

The groups part is technically quite tricky, but with a lot of practice it's quite manageable :)

F2

Hi Andy

I did F1 then F2 because I know that I am better at that subject.  And found both quite easy.  F2 follows on well from F1.  Lots of consolidations, just a bit trickier.

My reasoning was that if I did the ones I thought I should pass first, it would give me more motivation to carry on and do the rest.

Personally I hate the E exams but a lot of people find them easier than others.

One of my tutors said that the way I did it makes sense as F1 and F2 kind of stand on their own.  But E1 and P1 are linked as are E2 and P2.  There is a lot of stuff in all those that get repeated.

Good luck whatever you do.

Practice is the key

Hi Andy,

If you had scored 72, then it's the time to start F2. Go for F2. Practice a lot. Practice is the key and as always - the way to success is not that easy. Sitting in a place, learning & revising the points and practicing questions again & again is no doubt, a daunting task. But practice is the best of all instructors. Good luck with you.

Best regards,

Angela

Do F2

Hi Andy

just totally agreeing with  the rest - i passed F1 in May and have just passed F2 today (60%).

You basically built upon what you have already learnt and since you got such a high score you will find it very easy to keep up.  My advice do F2 now while its all still a bit fresh!

Thanks!!

Many thanks for the advice everyone. F2 it is then!!

F2 AND E1!!

Hi Andy

Well done - yes you should go for F2 but you could always do both! E1 is a relatively easy paper to study, because it is words rather than numbers. It's a good paper to study if you commute to and from work on public transport - lots of reading! You can also dip into the E1 book when you need a rest from brain-addling financial instruments!!

Thanks!!

Good advice that Rebecca many thanks.

I have also heard that E1 is a cure for insomnia ;).

Passed F1 and E1 - need advice

I passed F1 and E1 with 91% and 67% respectively (November 2011 - 1st attempt;). I wanted to take 2 more papers in May 2012.

I thought of taking P1 and P2 together, but everyone seems to think that P2 is a nightmare!.

So I am confused now - I am definitely going to take P1 in May. But should I combine it with P2 or another paper??

Thanks

Next steps

Hi Sanjota

92%!! That is an amazing result!

Personally I would not advise taking P1 and P2 together unless you are working in a management accounting role or have lots of spare time to study.

You have done so well with F1 that I'd say F2 and P1 in May (this will also get you the Diploma in Management Accounting), followed by E2 and P2 in November.

You're definitely on track to complete the qualification next year. :)

Best wishes

E1 or F2

Hi Andy,
Just in case you decide to go with one of the two you need keep in mind the following points

1. If you decide to sit for E1 and pass it you will be awarded CIMA DIPLOMA in MANAGEMENT Accounting also If you sat and passed all exams at operational level (E1, P1, F1) under the 2010 syllabus or (P1, P4, P7) under the 2005 syllabus, you are eligible for the letters CIMA Dip MA.

2. Since you are in practice of dealing with numbers and have done well in F1 you may choose to sit for F2. If you work hard enough you will surely succeed and retention of knowledge from F1 would certainly help.

P1 and F2

Thanks Rebecca,

I think I will take P1 and F2 in May.

I am not working at the moment. I am a full-time mom;)...So by the time my 2 year old goes to bed, I am too exhausted to study too much....hence the apprehension about taking P1 and P2 together.

I have currently chosen the "self study" option. I studied E1 and F1 from the official CIMA books. And contrary to what most people have written here, I found them quite good! There are many mistakes, but I think it is quite challenging to work out the right answers, especially in F1!

I know this is not the correct board for it, but if anyone wants E1 and F1 books, please let me know. I live in Shropshire and would be glad to get rid of them;)

Andy, in my opinion, E1 is quite easy and is the best combination with a "numbers heavy" paper. So E1 and F2 seems to be a great combination. All the best!
