Alert for new posts in a Group

Is it possible to add an Alert when new topics are posted to a group? I know this can be done for individual posts for replies but it would be useful for groups unless it already exists? Many posts in groups get no responses due to the fact that unless you check in regularly you don't know there is a new post.

Alerts depend on content being "followed" & group alerts option

Hi Brendan,

Alerts can't be generated by new posts I'm afraid, they can only be generated when you select to follow a discussion that has been started.

On a related note however, we are looking into the possibility of gettings alerts automated for group discussion updates, as some people have commented that the groups are not getting as much activity as they should as group members are not made aware of what is going on in them. However, some people could potentially find this annoying. We are going to canvas the group managers to see what they think first, and will let everyone know what the breakdown of support is for it.

Alerts for new posts in Groups - coming next week!

Hi Brendan / everyone,

I wanted to give you an update about changes we are making to the Groups, which should increase visits, awareness and hopefully participation in them, adding up to a more valuable experience for group members.

We have planned these changes after receiving comments, emails and verbal feedback over the last few months that the groups were not getting as much activity as expected, and that awareness of group content amongst group members was low.

From now on, everyone who joins the groups (or is already in them) will automatically receive email alerts every time new content (discussion, discussion replies, news, events, documents) is added to the group.

They can unsubscribe from content alerts and set the frequency of updates on a per-group basis (eg. for the Managerial Level Study Group I could set my email alerts to come immediately, but set my alerts for the Excel and Access User Group to come daily).

They can opt in and out directly from the top of each Group page, as well as from a new 'Notifications' dashboard that will appear in their Profile Manager.

The frequency of group updates can be set to: immediately, hourly, twice a day, daily, and weekly.

I will provide more details when the change is implemented in the next few days.

All the groups are listed here:
