    Hello!

I have a general question I was hoping to get an answer/advice on.

If a company has old accruals stored on the balance sheet is it ok to release them into the P&L without providing any disclosure in the notes to the accounts?

They obviously need to be released at some stage if bills aren't received for them but if it inflates profit by a considerable margin then what is the accounting protocol?

    Thanks

The view over London from the 41st floor of the HSBC headquarters in Canary Wharf was breath-taking and the clarity of thought that it inspired from the attendees at the launch of Tomorrow's Corporate Reporting was equally impressive.  Unlike many reports in this area, the focus of this research undertaken by CIMA, PwC and Tomorrow's Company is not on the ideal content of a corporate report but rather the barriers to the effective development of corporate reporting system.

Our business is thinking seriously about investing in Access Accounting Software, in particular using the Application for Payment processes and Timesheet / costing processes. Has anybody had experience with this software?

Hi, I am working for a charter operator and would like to develop my skills and knowledge with someone who can share their knowledge with me in relation to Aviation Accounting & Reporting.

If anyone has done any of the courses conducted by IATA, please send me more information about those. Thank you.

Our CIMA GBC Experience – Team Leader Channa Gunasekera recollects…

    The team

One ordinary day during the lunch break at the canteen, my good friend Harinda walked up to me and told about CIMA GBC. I, “the competition lover” replied, “I’ll check whether we can achieve the deadline of this competition and then we’ll register.”

It was a routine reading of e-mails when I discovered the CIMA Global Business Challenge. I relished the opportunity of participating in another business competition.  I knew that many people involved with Enterprise at Sussex would be interested in this competition so I sent an e-mail to the organizers requesting an e-mail to be sent out on the Enterprise mailing list.

    Our journey began…

“I have received an invite for an interesting competition from CIMA which I think we should go for”, said our mentor Mr. Raghu Anand as we walked into his office on a Monday morning. Looking at the invite a sense of excitement filled us as we looked at the countries participating and wondering the about the level of competition we would be pitted against. With the formation of our team after much deliberation my journey began with 3 days left for the 1st deadline

    Why did I join GBC

Our team saw GBC as a good time to challenge ourselves against the best in our country as well as those from others. The competition was also interesting as cases involving management accounting are quite rare in our school and we saw it as an opportunity to learn more about CIMA, management accounting as well as the other skills needed to tackle such a real-life business problem.

Thanks to CIMA Global Business Challenge 2009, the past several months of the year 2009 had been an unforgettable memory for me. Even it’s been a month or so since our last presentation, I still have in my mind every single word of our final speech, everything we had been through along our way to the stage of the Global Final in Singapore is just as refreshed as it was yesterday.

Team member 1 - Steven Chan:

Struggling over the same project for half a year could be excruciating and tedious in most cases, but this time it is different. Back in February 2009, when we first submitted our registration form, we never have imagined that this slight possibility of winning would turn into reality! We are the GBC global final champion of 2009!

The first and foremost attribute of this competition is its versatility. The nature of competition itself, the pool of participants and panel of adjudication offers such variation!

If delivered and managed correctly, finance and accounting outsourcing (FAO)provides consistent quality, reduced costs and a fall in routine management time. How can organisations best assess the value that FAO provides, both from a cost and strategic perspective?
