    "Global attention on fighting corruption is intensifying" was one of the conclusions at a CIMA seminar at St Paul's cathedral held earlier in April.  The introduction of the UK Bribery Act is part of this "crest of a wave" and the growth of anti-corruption initiatives and focus on ethical business are evident everywhere.  "Call to end corporate corruption" read the headlines in the Malaysian press the day I was presenting

    The strap-line to the WCOA 2010 event is ‘accountants: sustaining value creation’. This is a terrific message, very much in line with CIMA’s own mantra and one that we as an organisation support wholeheartedly.

    The world seems to have changed immeasurably since the staging of the last World Congress of Accountants (WCOA) four years ago in Istanbul. The sparks of economic turbulence that began to fly in the global financial markets in the following summer of 2007 and then proceeded to spread like a forest fire throughout the banking sector in 2008 have resulted in shifting priorities for accountants in all industries across the globe.

    Eight country finalists in teams of four took the stage to stake their claim to being the inaugural champions  of the CIMA Global Business Challenge at the National University in Singapore on Friday August 21st. The teams were trying to impress the judging panel consisting of Simon Hurst FCMA - Executive Director, Goldman Sachs in China, Karina Davies - Director of Sales & Marketing, Swissotel Singapore, Vince Cook - CEO, Islamic Bank of Asia, Richard Soh - CEO, SMa School of Management in Singapore, Ray Perry - Director of Brand, CIMA and myself.

    I visited Malaysia for a CIMA-sponsored conference in February where I delivered the opening address. My subject was the New Economic Paradigm. At Heathrow I noticed the cover story of Newsweek proclaiming: We are all socialists now.

    The kernel of the piece is that Obama is taking the US in the statist direction of Europe, or to be more precise, France.
