I have an issue in preparing consolidated management reporting for my group where we have one company with fiscal year end in Dec and all the others in Jan.
The rule that I am following is to report each month the same number of periods for all companies. In this way, in say April, where I have to report 3 periods, I report April YTD for the group (but one company) and March YTD for the one with different fiscal year.
XBRL is mainly being talked about with respect to its use in external financial reporting i.e. as a tool to facilitate extraction of data from multiple sources. However, some are saying that the technology has application within groups to facilitate consolidation and analysis of internal accounting information especially on an international basis.
