    Hi All,

I work in a manufacturing/engineering environment.  We are finalising our budget and are now busy with cost centre budgets.  We want to calculate our planned labour hours per direct worker.  We use these direct hours to calculate our tariff (overhead recovery rate).  The tariff is calculated by taking the total labour cost plus overheads per cost centre and then deviding that by the total nr of available direct hours per cost centre. (10,000 / 25hrs = 400)

Recently, I was trying to find some consoling words for a friend experiencing a protracted work-related crisis.  He stopped me in my tracks by mournfully admitting “Just when I thought this was the light at the end of the tunnel, it turned out to be an approaching train..” Ah, the cruelty of the false dawn.
