Could 'microblogging" services like Twitter usurp the centrality of email to business by offering a more effective communication toolset?
This weekend saw the climax of the CIMA Global Business Challenge 2011 as the finals took place over two days in Chengdu, China with teams from 17 regions worldwide competing to be named champions in this showcase of aspiring business talent. In turn, CIMA provided realtime coverage of the event using social media with staff co-ordinating via web and mobile in China and London.
Twitter, Facebook, iPhone Apps - not the usual stuff of a blog focussing on corporate reporting but then times-are-a-changing.
Not so many years ago, I was involved in the production of an annual report for an international group that involved many late nights at the printers checking proof copies of the final report. Once we were finally sure that every ‘t' was crossed and ‘i' dotted and the page breaks were in the right place we allowed the presses to roll.
